4140 GYRATORY COMPACTOR
The Model 4140-B Gyratory Compactor is built to SHRP specifications. It produces asphalt specimens that best predict long-term pavement performance. The SHRP Superpaveª program uses specimen height from each gyration during the consolidation cycle as the basis for asphalt mix design. This information is not attainable from Marshall hammers or any other laboratory compaction equipment. Automatically measuring the specimen height during consolidation, the Model 4140-B produces a densification graph that the designer can use to produce the best possible paving mixture.

The Model 4140-B is simple to run. Pressing a single key lowers the ram, induces the angle, performs compaction, and records data. Every specimen is compacted with a constant consolidation pressure, angle, and rate of gyration, providing consistent samples time after time. These parameters are easily changed in minutes by following the menu instructions.

The Model 4140-B provides you with the following advantages:
  • All rotating parts are beneath the work surface, and all doors and access panels have safety interlock switches ensuring maximum safety for the operator
  • A width of only 62 cm (24.5 inches) means it will fit through almost any doorway
  • Power requirements of 10 amps at 115 VAC means the Model 4140 can be plugged into a standard wall socket and is ready to run as soon as you uncrate the unit
  • An ergonomic design that runs quietly allowing normal conversation in the lab while the machine is running
  • Gyropave data collection software calculates the information needed for Level I SuperPave mix designs
  • A twelve month warranty and Troxler's forty years of experience ensure you will be pleased with the performance of your Model 4140 Gyratory Compactor

4141 GYRATORY COMPACTOR
The Troxler Model 4141 is the new generation of Superpave® Gyratory Compactor, designed to accommodate field labs and construction trailers.

The most efficient means for project control of all Superpave® mixtures, the Model 4141 produces consistent specimens time after time. Featured is a proven method of compaction, using a fixed angle, constant consolidation pressure and a set rate of gyration. And, it operates so quietly, you hardly know it's running.

The mold may now be moved directly from the consolidation chamber to the extruder without lifting.

Output of specimen height is automatically directed to a printer or computer during the consolidation cycle or stored and downloaded after compaction is complete. Troxler GyroPave® for Windows® software allows tabulation or graphing of data and the use of the popular Excel® spreadsheet program for data analysis.

  • modular electronic package conveniently located behind the front panel for ease of removal and repair
  • angle & number of gyrations displayed at all times

TRUE MOLD ANGLE DEVICE (TMA)
You can now verify the angle of gyration on your gyratory compactor quickly, simply and with no question as to what you are measuring.

TRUE MOLD ANGLE DEVICE

What is it?
The TMA is a new device developed by Troxler for use by the gyratory compactor owners to verify and calibrate the angle of gyration. It is an external apparatus that is totally passive and does not affect the operation of the compactor under test.

How does it work ?
Troxler has used a simple and traditional two-point measurement concept to measure the mold angle since we started manufacturing the Model 4140 Ð the original SHRP Superpave Gyratory Compactor. The TMA uses a simple trigonometric function to calculate the gyratory compactor angle. Because the TMA is secured to the frame of the compactor, the angle is net of any frame deflection that may occur due to resistance of the specimen to compaction. Angle measurements can be made during the actual compaction process.
TMA (3190) Operator's Manual (for Model 4140)
TMA (3191) Operator's Manual (for Model 4141)

Benefits
  • Measurement of compaction angle dynamically and in real time
  • The two measurement points are separated to a distance that ensures an accurate mold angle measurement
  • This measurement technique conforms to the provisions of AASHTO T312
  • Operates with standard 110vac power, no need to worry about low batteries and lost data
  • No limitations on sample size, no data extrapolation needed
  • Measure the angle any time as the mixtures are compacted
GYROPAC
A critical factor with the Superpave™ Gyratory Compactor (SGC) is the angle of gyration during the compaction cycle. The DAV II – Hot Mixed Simulator (HMS) is making the process of checking and adjusting the angle much easier and more reliable. Several years ago the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) determined that a key factor in agreement between gyratory compactors was the internal-mold angle of gyration. Tom Brovold of Test Quip, Inc. worked with FHWA and invented the DAV specifically for this purpose. Now this concept has been improved with the development of DAV II – HMS. Troxler has joined with Mr. Brovold to make this new device available for all compactor owners.

Gravity Asphalt Specimen Extruder
Now the simplest, fastest way to extrude your Gyratory or Marshall specimen is available from Troxler. No electricity or hydraulics needed — simply the force of gravity and pressing down can extrude any specimen. The Troxler Gravity Asphalt Specimen Extruder is designed to extrude specimens quickly, as fast as you can press down on the mold flange; or delayed over any time needed to allow the specimen to cool. Extrude one-quarter, one-third, one-half, or any portion of the specimen to allow for maximum cooling.

Gravity Asphalt Specimen Extruder

How does it work?

Step 1: Place the mold on the extruder
Step 2: Press down on the mold flange to extrude the specimen

Works with any brand of Gyratory Compactor. Now you can use your compactor for what it was intended for – compacting specimens. Be more efficient by using the Troxler Gravity Extruder to extrude the last gyro specimen while you compact the next one.

Benefits
  • Extrude 150mm or 100mm Gyratory Specimens
  • Extrude 4” or 6” Marshall specimens
  • Use the adjustable locking plate to extrude any portion of a specimen, then lower the plate and extrude more of the specimen
  • Lightweight, with a very small footprint to fit on any work surface

SOFTWARE - GYROPAVE 2000
Windows® based companion to the Model 4140 and 4141 Gyratory Compactors.

GyroPave is the software companion to Troxler's Model 4140 and 4141 Gyratory Compactors. GyroPave provides a flexible and powerful tool to collect and process densification data from the gyratory compactor.

GyroPave enables the user to manage multiple project files. Project files contain compaction data loaded either directly from the compactor or from stored compactor data files within the computer. These project files can contain up to twelve samples with varying mix design parameters

GyroPave can calculate the SUPERPAVE mix design properties. GyroPave provides a number of sample worksheets (templates) and macros for Microsoft Excel to automate a number of common tasks in the SUPERPAVE mix design process.

GyroPave simplifies the design process by:
  • Collecting data from the gyratory compactor during or after compaction
  • Automatically performing the mix design calculations
The user can view, print, or graph the resulting densification properties.

For ease of use, GyroPave is configured into two distinct phases that are in accordance with SUPERPAVE mix design procedures:
  • Phase 1: Selection of Design Aggregate Structure (DAS)
  • Phase 2: Determination of Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC)
GyroPave is not limited to designing SUPERPAVE mixes. GyroPave also enables the user to perform field performance testing with the compactor to ensure Troxler Quick QC compliance with SUPERPAVE. In addition to the analysis provided with this program, the user can copy the height data from the compactor to another spreadsheet
